Ormiston Herman Academy Nursery shortlisted for National Early Years Award

Ormiston Herman Academy is celebrating after its early years provision was shortlisted for a national accolade at the 2025 Nursery World Awards.

The academy is one of just a handful of schools across the country to be nominated in the Early Years in School category at the Nursery World Awards 2025 – a long running national programme celebrating best practice and innovation in the early years sector. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London this September.

The nomination recognises the Early Years team’s inspiring work to create engaging, nature-connected learning environments that support every child’s curiosity, communication and independence. The nomination recognises the provision’s creative approach to sustainable, low-cost materials – such as repurposed wooden crates for interactive displays and its use of meaningful enhancements to spark awe and wonder in the classroom.

The school’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision is built on strong family partnerships, high expectations for all children regardless of starting points and a commitment to developing a love of learning. Earlier this year, the academy also launched a free weekly community playgroup, ‘Little Fledgelings’, open to all local families with children aged 0-4.

The shortlisting is a proud moment for the academy and reflects the dedication of staff, families and the wider community in creating a nurturing, inspiring start to children’s education.

Amy Jackson, EYFS Lead said: “Everything we do is rooted in the belief that children deserve learning experiences that excite and empower them. From the environments we create to the partnerships that we build with families, our aim is to nurture curiosity and confidence in every child. We’re honoured to be shortlisted and proud of what our children and team have achieved together.”

Kristy Redhead, Principal said: “We are incredibly proud to see our EYFS team’s work recognised at this level. Their care, creativity and high expectations have created a truly special space where children thrive. This nomination is a testament to their daily commitment to helping every child learn, grow and feel proud of what they achieve.”
